Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery Improves the Patient Experience
Anticipating any type of surgery triggers anxiety in nearly every patient we see at Cedar Park Surgeons. We can reassure them that today’s advanced options improve nearly every aspect of the process, from post-surgical pain and recovery time to the outcome that you can expect.
Dr. Nicole Basa and Dr. Alan Abando are board certified general surgeons, fellowship trained in minimally invasive and robotic techniques. They routinely perform minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery to provide our patients greater opportunities to recover as quickly as possible. Robotic surgery is the least invasive option, and we will detail the reasons in your first consult at our Cedar Park surgery center.
You may qualify for robotic surgery for the following types of surgery:
About Robotic Surgery at the Hands of Dr. Basa and Dr. Abando
The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System was developed to improve upon the laparoscopic approach, which involves just 2-3 small incisions in the abdomen. With robotic surgery, we can work with the same 2-3 incisions, or the newer single-site method. You can see from the diagram why we refer to these options as minimally invasive.
The surgeon is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to enhance visualization, precision and dexterity. A console provides remote access to wristed instruments that move within the surgical site like a human hand, but with a much greater range of motion. The da Vinci system also features magnification through a 3D vision system. The robotic system is an extension of the surgeon and requires extensive training to master. Drs. Basa and Abando are both certified in the da Vinci method that is associated with high patient satisfaction.
Robotic Surgery Benefits | From the Patient’s Point of View … |
Greater precision and control
|
Minimizes pain, excellent clinical outcomes |
Small 1-2 cm incisions
|
Minimizes blood loss, wound infection and scarring; minimizes recovery time
|
Enhanced ability to perform surgery in difficult to reach areas of the body with better visibility and accuracy | Excellent clinical outcomes |
Reduced complications | Minimizes cost and hospital stays
|
Reduced need to convert to open surgery | Excellent clinical outcomes, minimizes cost and hospital stays |
Single-site Robotic Surgery Further Improves Outcomes
Adding to the benefits of robotic surgery with multiple entry points, the newest method leaves virtually no scar. Depending on your health and type of surgery needed, you may be a good candidate for this single-site surgery.
The procedures that we currently perform using a single-site robotic approach include: Gallbladder Surgery if you are a good candidate
Your first choice in a surgeon should be an experienced physician trained in minimally invasive techniques and certified in the da Vinci method. Contact the Cedar Park surgeons who advocate for their patients and, whenever possible, suggest a laparoscopic or robotic surgery rather than open surgery.
