Awareness of breast cancer in the 20’s with breast awareness which includes being aware of any abnormal lumps or masses
Mammography at age 40 for women with average risk
Women with higher risk may need annual mammography starting at age 30
Yearly clinical breast exams with primary care physician
For women who are high risk for breast cancer they may need an annual MRI and mammogram:
- BRCA mutation
- First degree relative of BRCA carrier
- Lifetime risk of 20-25% or greater
- Radiation to the chest 10-30 years old
- Li Fraumeni, Cowden Syndrome, Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalcalba Syndrome or first degree relative of one of these
